Representation: Blog task taken trailer

1) The groups that are represented in this trailer are Women and Men.

2) The men are represented in a dominant portrayal as this is reinforced through him saving his daughter and being the protector of her by doing this which reinforces a stereotype for all relationships between and daughter and a father. The Daughter is given freedom as well so this could be taken as a alternative representation which could challenge different stereotypes as this may be seen as different to the norms and values in society. However this is also quite a Dominant representation as she is more vulnerable when the men come to kidnap her which makes her seem more vulnerable and the girls mother is unable to defend her daughter.

3)The stereotypes that i can identify in this trailer is that the fact that the father is conveyed as a protector for her daughter and she relies on him for everything. The other thing is about their class and identity which is white middle class and how they tackle this situation which is how a family would as the location is quite familiar and this is stereotypes through this promoting sexism and misogyny against women by objectifying them and certain codes give this away as their costumes change and social role.

4)This trailer may offend or alienate certain groups as it portrays women being abducted and being sold and bought which is reinforcing a stereotype that they are seen to be submissive to men and this may offend women and feminists.

5) This film taken which is a mainstream film uses many stereotypes because it may be used to express a certain aspect of a particular social group and see how the audience react towards this.
This also be done because as the youth now would watch this film they could help eliminate these stereotypes. These also may be used to communicate to the audience concisely as possible to make them aware of what goes on in this society today.
