1) cultural industries means the creation , production and distribution of products of a cultural or artistic nature.
2)Hesmondhalgh identifies that the societies in which the cultural
industries are highly profitable tend to be societies that support the
conditions where large companies, and their political allies, make
money. He also identifies texts that challenge different ideologies and capitalism or inequalities of gender stereotypes.
3)media products offer different ideologies that challenge capitalism and ideologies because the cultural industry needs to constantly compete with each other to secure its audience members as the companies themselves need to fill in audience desires.
4) Hesmondhalgh identifies numerous problems with cultural industries such as risky business as it may be difficult for companies to earn profit if they are independent or individual and another problem is high production costs and low production costs means that big hits in music are extremely profitable and this makes costs vary.
5)The reason why so many companies are a risky business for the companies involved is because the cultural industry is reliant on other cultural industry companies to make audiences aware of their product and they can achieve high level of profit but this is risky due to the fact that it may difficult to achieve high level of profit for individual and independent companies.
6)In my opinion the media is mainly all about profit as when these products are promoted they are done for a reason there is communication through different companies and this is done to make audiences more intrigued to whatever they are promoting. Furthermore the fact that films are being made in other ways like 3D and in imax cinemas it is too promote them in different ways to make more profit.
7) Cultural industries maximise their profit and minimise their risk by diversification as the companies branch out to different companies in order to survive and this helps them to earn more money because they become more well known in the media.
8) I agree to some extent that the way cultural industries operate reflect the inequalities and injustices because there is massive difference of how different societies have access to the media and this is in terms of wealth, gender and ethnicity. Furthermore they face other challenges like growing influence and opening up in the media into Hollywood as it is much harder.
9) Visual effects industry has suffered due to the industry being crushed by economic crisis and they became bank Rupt and they were suffering financial problems and the fact that they were struggling so their budget was low and the production movies had got more money but visual effects were still paid low and the industry was going through problems.
10) Commodification is transforming objects in commodities which involves producing things for the change and this changes social significance of cultural industries.
11) I agree to some extent that when media texts are created they fail to reflect the diversity of people in wider society due to the fact that as mosco argues that the media texts that are made available all promote the same thing and just have different voices. There is a difference between multiplicity – a large
number of voices – and diversity – whether or not these voices are
actually offering different things from each other.
12)Hesmondhalgh argues that industries have changed because of digitisation as now audiences can access the media through a variety of things not just one thing which means industries have become more broad, Also a significant development is Cultural products can now be shared across national borders. This
increased the adaptation, reinvention and hybridity of genres and
products. It also enables cultures to reaffirm their values, reducing
the cultural influence of the USA.

ownership and control blog task
1)media conglomerate:
21st century fox
conglomerate ownership:
The Brands and companies and media products that the 21st century fox are best known for are the fox entertainment group the national geographic channel, fox news channel, sky and blue sky studios.
Vertical and horizontal integration:
21st century fox, fox entertainment group, 20th century fox
horizontal integration:
studios in Bollywood, cinemas, TV channels, DVD Rental shops.
Synergy:
Fox news examples in the Simpsons as they promote same ideologies.
2) I believe that the government could prevent media conglomerates from being dominate but this would create advantages as the conglomerates show that in society we do not want to cheaply made films. We become impressed with new technology and creations with producers and actors: to sum it up we want good quality films that we will remember. This would make it good for it becoming dominant however if they do become very dominate it would take away audiences preferences and this would create more hassle for the audience and how they view the conglomerates
3)The process of production, promotion and distribution is that this process provides audiences with the media products they want it needs to consider the audience's desires and should provide the gratifications the audience expects. The promotion process researchers and identifies the target audience for the product, and uses advertising and marketing strategies to inform and persuade them of the value of the media product. The Distribution process uses the most appropriate methods for getting the product to the audiences and making it as easy as possible for them to access it.
4) The different funding models for the different institutions are business media that are the organisations which underpin control and own TV programming , film and music
5)One example is marvel and the writer is saying that it is different from reality and go with audiences expectations of marvel which makes their company very successful and another example is Disney which is for children's entertainment and the writer believes that it creates familiar and reassuring expectations for the audience. Also Spotify was a music app that allowed everyone to listen to music whenever and where ever and this enabled modern audiences to communicate with instituions.
6) The new business models media companies have to adopt due to the changes in technology and distribution is that they have to reconsider their business model which mean that music companies do not make profit through music itself but the merchandising the sponsorship and the extra things makes these companies earn more money and the cinemas have invested in 3D just to engage with the audience.
7) Technologies becoming major institutions as they are having to adapt to survive and the changes that are increasing are things like , Amazon, Facebook, Google and yahoo have become media institutions. As google and you tube have changed the way we have access to music and moving entertainment as it has become more revolutionised.
8)In my opinion Traditional media companies are struggling to survive as they are having to adapt to the new ways the things are bought to the audience as audiences tend to reject traditional tv programmes and newspapers and cinema exhibition as the media is constantly coming up with new ways to attract certain audiences.
9)Diversification may help companies to survive and thrive in a rapidly changing media company due to media companies branching out into different area of the industry which helps them to earn more money as they become more well known in the media.
10)In my opinion the relationship between audiences and institutions is that they are both can interrelate with each other as audiences are increasingly using certain things and these things are set for them and the media institutions recognise these things as more apps recognise your preferences in the news on your phone and things on you tube which suggest what you may like to watch and i believe that the media conglomerates will maintain control as what is viewed and what is not which will increase as the media is becoming more and more sophisticated.

media regulation: blog task
1) Regulation is what needs to be monitored in the media and media industries need to be regulated due to prevent young people and more vulnerable people accessing the media that isn't suited for them.
2) OFCOM is responsible for granting licences to TV and Radio stations and it is illegal to broadcast TV or Radio signals without a licence from OFCOM. Before the development of digital broadcasting technologies,it was only possible to have 4 or 5 TV stations broadcasting at the same time before the signals would begin to interfere with each other.
3)The three most important sections of the broadcasting code are section 2 harm and offence, section 8 privacy and section 1 protection of under 18's. This is because for these three areas to be regulated and checked and the internet to be used in this way causes the internet to be more useful as if the things shown to under 18's it would be more civilised and less harm and offence caused and less crime but if these sections are not taken into consideration then this will have impact on the younger people and the vulnerable as well.
4) I do not agree with OFCOM that it was wrong to show wolverine on a Sunday evening at 6:55pm as this could be interpreted in many different ways as not everyone becomes violent after seeing violence or abuse it depends on the individual and how much control they have. Therefore this film is watched with a family it could be regulated by them in this instance and depends how the reaction is as a whole.
5)The 5 sections of the press complaints in the commissions code of practise privacy , harassment, Discrimination, children in sex cases and reporting of crime.
6) The press complaints commission was criticised due to the fact that its critics claim that the lack of statuary powers means that when a newspaper has been found breaking the rules, the best victim can hope for its apology and this is not often doesn't get sufficient prominence in the paper.
7) The Leveson enquiry was “culture, practice and ethics of the press” was held, mainly as a result of the so-called phone hacking scandal. This was set up due to the fact that Clive Goodman (the royal reporter of the News of the World newspaper) and Glenn Mulcaire (a private investigator, employed by Goodman) were imprisoned for illegally intercepting phone calls connected to the royal family.
8) In 2014 the PCC was replaced by the Independent Press Standards Organisation. This new body has been set up by the newspaper industry itself and it’s code of practice
is essentially the same as the code administered by the PCC.
9) I Believe that press regulation is important in society as it helps the most vulnerable from consuming the data that is inappropriate towards them. However newspapers should also be regulated as the stories put in them could be anything and cause hassle amongst the audiences consuming the media it self.
10) Internet regulation is basically restricting or controlling access to certain aspects or information. Internet regulation consists of: Censorship of data, and controlling aspects of the Internet such as domain registration, IP address control and more. This is difficult to control due the fact that its used all over the world not just in one country like newspapers and TV which means it is more difficult as it would be more money consuming for the companies themselves and they would have to employ more people to actually regulate the internet all over the country which wouldn't be as idealistic.
