1) Regulation is what needs to be monitored in the media and media industries need to be regulated due to prevent young people and more vulnerable people accessing the media that isn't suited for them.
2) OFCOM is responsible for granting licences to TV and Radio stations and it is illegal to broadcast TV or Radio signals without a licence from OFCOM. Before the development of digital broadcasting technologies,it was only possible to have 4 or 5 TV stations broadcasting at the same time before the signals would begin to interfere with each other.
3)The three most important sections of the broadcasting code are section 2 harm and offence, section 8 privacy and section 1 protection of under 18's. This is because for these three areas to be regulated and checked and the internet to be used in this way causes the internet to be more useful as if the things shown to under 18's it would be more civilised and less harm and offence caused and less crime but if these sections are not taken into consideration then this will have impact on the younger people and the vulnerable as well.
4) I do not agree with OFCOM that it was wrong to show wolverine on a Sunday evening at 6:55pm as this could be interpreted in many different ways as not everyone becomes violent after seeing violence or abuse it depends on the individual and how much control they have. Therefore this film is watched with a family it could be regulated by them in this instance and depends how the reaction is as a whole.
5)The 5 sections of the press complaints in the commissions code of practise privacy , harassment, Discrimination, children in sex cases and reporting of crime.
6) The press complaints commission was criticised due to the fact that its critics claim that the lack of statuary powers means that when a newspaper has been found breaking the rules, the best victim can hope for its apology and this is not often doesn't get sufficient prominence in the paper.
7) The Leveson enquiry was “culture,practice and ethics of the press” was held,mainly as a result of the so-called phone hacking scandal. This was set up due to the fact that Clive Goodman (the royal reporter of the News of the World newspaper) and Glenn Mulcaire (a private investigator,employed by Goodman) were imprisoned for illegally intercepting phone calls connected to the royal family.
8) In 2014 the PCC was replaced by the Independent Press Standards Organisation. This new body has been set up by the newspaper industry itself and it’s code of practice
is essentially the same as the code administered by the PCC.
9) I Believe that press regulation is important in society as it helps the most vulnerable from consuming the data that is inappropriate towards them. However newspapers should also be regulated as the stories put in them could be anything and cause hassle amongst the audiences consuming the media it self.
10) Internet regulation is basically restricting or controlling access to certain aspects or information. Internet regulation consists of: Censorship of data, and controlling aspects of the Internet such as domain registration, IP address control and more. This is difficult to control due the fact that its used all over the world not just in one country like newspapers and TV which means it is more difficult as it would be more money consuming for the companies themselves and they would have to employ more people to actually regulate the internet all over the country which wouldn't be as idealistic.
